As we begin this year in technology, I am very excited to introduce the students to the digital world and all of the limitless possibilities, but also paired with the safety, correct usage and responsibility needed.
Technology is no longer limited to just a computer and a smart phone, but one of the 4 important tiers of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education. We now live in a digital age, where none of us can relate to in the past, the amount of information readily at our fingertips like our children now have. Paper, pencils, and chalkboards have been replaced with SMART Boards, touch screen handheld devices, and virtual classroom interactions. As technology evolves rapidly in today's society, it is important to not only introduce the advances, but the safety and correct usage as well. Digital technology within the classroom allows students to engage in their content in a multitude of different ways. Allowing the students to be able to communicate in their own preferred method, resulting in a more dynamic expression than simply turning in a paper assignment. The engagement with the content empowers your student's own point of view and capitalize on individual learning styles and engaging collaboration, as well as setting them up for their future inside and outside of school. The goal of tech class is to not only learn within the classroom, but to develop skillsets that can flourish the gifts God has given, responsible digital citizen skills, and enhancing the learning experience for students. I'm excited this year to continue and introduce the applications of design, editing, coding, and basic skill sets for every grade level to build up their technology portfolios and technical knowledge! Sincerely & Digitally, Mrs. Pothast
